It’s good to keep tabs on your machine. With a quick glance at the digital
screen, you’ll see all the functions and options. Do you want to brew one cup or
two? Is your machine in the automatic rinsing or cleaning cycle? Is it grinding
or brewing? It’s all on the readout display. This versatile machine is also
multilingual and can be programmed in English, Italian, Spanish, French, German,
Japanese, Portuguese, or Dutch.
On-Screen Functions:
- Program your favorite language
- Select just the right temperature from Minimum, Low, Medium, High and
Maximum.
- Set up the cup size you’d like for each brewing cycle to small, medium or
large, or any volume in between.
- Monitor the number of cups you brew in a day.
- Set the machine to turn itself off after 15 minutes or up to 3 hours of
non-use.
- Set a warning signal telling you when the machine needs to be cleaned.

insures top working order and prevents mineral deposits and lime scale from
accumulating in the boiler and brewing systems, a major cause of
mal-functions!)
- Tell the coffee warmer to turn on or off. Plus many other features.
Fully Automatic Espresso & Coffee Brewing
Three coffee size choices, each are programmable. Just press the button and
the Italia will automatically grind your coffee beans, and dispense freshly
brewed, rich and flavorful coffee into your cup. This machine allows you to
choose the volume and strength of your coffee or espresso by simply pressing
buttons on the control panel. Then it cleans up and is ready for the next order
in less than 30 seconds. Press the brew button once for a single espresso or
coffee. Pushing the brew button twice quickly will put a double shot of espresso
or coffee in your cup.
Utilize the enormous flexibility of this machine’s programming options by
varying the water volume up to 7 ounces and the ability to use up to 9 grams of
ground coffee per brewing cycle. By experimenting with the water volume and
grams of ground coffee you can fine-tune your coffee and easily program these
parameters into the memory.
Hot Water Dispenser & Rapid-Steam® Technology
We’re all steamed up about Saeco's patented Rapid-Steam® system! Turn the
steam knob and have instant steam you want for cappuccinos or lattes. Other
systems can have you waiting up to 45 seconds for the steam function to be ready
but not with Rapid-Steam®; you’ll have consistent steam for repeated drinks.
The special milk frothing tip delivers perfect foam every time for lattes or
cappuccinos, even if you have never foamed milk before! The steam wand is
located on the right front of the machine and it accommodates frothing pitchers
up to 32 oz. If you need instant hot water for making tea, hot cocoa, or
Americanos, the hot water feature is available at the press of a button.
Espresso, Café Crème or Regular Coffee
In addition to regular espresso, the Italia you can adjust for the coarseness
of the grind, allowing you to brew a Café Creme, often referred to as Swiss
brewed coffee for the country that made it popular. For a Café Crème, (or crema
coffee) a courser grind is needed. This coarser grind allows for more water to
pass through, resulting in a frothy layer of coffee that floats on the top: the
crema. Aromatic and rich, it is not as intense a coffee as the espresso, but
equally delicious. This feature also makes the Italia a natural replacement for
traditional coffee makers.
Pre-Ground Coffee Funnel
Need a change in your coffee routine? Just pour your chosen ground coffee
into the special pre-ground coffee funnel, which bypasses the coffee beans in
the bean hopper. This feature is really practical when there’s someone in the
crowd who wants a decaffeinated espresso and there are only espresso beans with
caffeine in the machine. The ground coffee goes into the funnel and the machine
takes care of the rest. When it’s finished, it automatically resets back to the
beans held in the machine. This feature makes the Italia a great choice for home
or office where lots of choice is desirable as well as convenience.
Coffee Strength Selection
Some days you need just a little bigger kick to your coffee. The Italia has a
feature that will allow you to adjust the amount of coffee to be ground for each
individual cup. Adjust it from 6 grams (- sign) to 9 grams (+ sign) to change
the strength of the coffee. 7 grams of ground coffee is the usual amount for
espresso, 9 grams is used for coffee.
Special Pre-infusion Brew System Cycle
Pre-infusion allows you to get maximum flavor from the brewing process. This
advanced system takes the newly ground coffee beans from the internal coffee
grinder and correctly tamps the coffee. Next comes “pre-infusion”. The grounds
are pre-soaked and then brewed before being discarded automatically into the
internal dump box. The machine then resets itself for the next brewing cycle.
Professional Quality Coffee Grinder with 18 Settings
Proper grinding is at the core of excellent coffee production. The Italia has
a built-in, conical type burr grinder with 18 different choices of grind, from
very fine to coarse. The same type used by the professionals. Pushing the brew
button sets the cycle in motion with the grinder measuring out the correct
amount of beans for the selection made and then grinding it to specifications.
Conical burr grinders are made up of a cone shaped grinding wheel that turns
slow enough not to burn the coffee beans, (a problem with low cost grinders).
The heavy-duty steel of the grinding wheel promotes a life of long service and
that’s strong enough to resist damage from the little stones that sometimes slip
in with the beans. This durable construction is consistent with top quality
machines and little or no maintenance or service is needed.
Built-in 68 Ounce Water Tank
The water reservoir can easily be refilled while it is still on the machine
or by removing it with the easy-grip handle and filling it at the kitchen tap.
The reservoir is made of clear ABS plastic so checking the water level is a
breeze.
For Perfect Coffee Extraction - a Powerful Pump
Delivering a maximum pressure of 15 bars, this on board water pump pulls the
maximum flavor from the coffee beans.
Coffee Bean Storage Hopper & Internal Waste Box
Keeping 1/4 pounds of beans fresh and ready for grinding is the built in,
lidded coffee bean hopper. When the coffee grounds are spent, the machine
delivers them to the internal dump box; which can hold up to 15 expended coffee
portions. It’s easy to remove and clean.
Adjustable Beverage Dispensing Nozzle & Cup Stacking Surface
This nozzle moves up or down to accept cup sizes up to 3.5” inches high and
can be moved aside during the brewing process. There is also cup-stacking
surface so you can keep your favorite espresso cups close by.
Swivel Base
Getting into your espresso machine for cleaning and maintenance is important
for the long life of your machine. The swivel base makes it easy to access all
sides of your machine.
Cleaning & Maintenance of Components
In order to keep the inside of your machine healthy; your machine must be
cleaned periodically. Scale buildup from naturally occurring minerals in your
water can build up on sensitive components like the inside of the boiler, which
if left unchecked can cause considerable damage to the machine. By descaling
your machine every two-three months, your machine will last for many
trouble-free years. Saeco espresso machine cleaner can be purchased from us or
by calling the support number in your user guide.
The machine will tell you when it’s time to activate the self-clean system by
when the light comes on. After adding our cleaner, just press the clean button.
The machine will take it from there. Descaling and general cleaning is important
even if you have a sophisticated water filter system, and especially if you use
well water.
Used coffee grounds are collected in the internal dump box, which can hold up
to 15 spent portions of coffee before it requires emptying. Wastewater left over
from the rinsing cycles is stored in a removable drip tray. When the indicator
lights illuminates, simply pull out the tray, empty and reinsert in seconds. All
components such as the used grounds container, drip tray, and water tank can be
hand washed with regular soap and water.
Installation & Accessories
Plug it in and the Italia is ready to go. No fuss, no mess, no special
plumbing for water intake or discharge and no special electrical outlets are
required. Detailed instructions on the optimum care and operation of your
machine is included with the purchase along with a brewing group maintenance
tool.
