ECM Classika PID Espresso Machine
As low as $1,449.00
The Classika PID from ECM had us curious out of the box. After a few quick tests, it had our attention.
What we discovered is a semi-automatic machine that focuses on high-performance in a small space, equipped with many of ECM’s commercial-grade luxuries enjoyed by much larger, more expensive prosumer machines. Crafted for home baristas with tighter budgets and kitchen space, the ECM Classika PID is for anyone who demands the highest quality espresso. The result is an impressively small, high-quality machine at a more modest price point with a steam heat up time of just 40 seconds.
Key to the Classika is the PID controller, allowing you to set brewing temperatures to the degree for extracting specific notes and flavors from certain coffees. This feature is very rare in machines of its class, and invaluable to anyone who likes to explore brewing technique It was clear to us immediately that no corners were cut in the Classika’s polished stainless steel housing and custom machined E61 group head. The vaunted E61 group head performs a vital function in helping maintain temperature stability thanks to its thermosyphon system.
Inside the machine, in continuing with ECM’s tall standards, the Classika brews with .5 liter stainless steel boiler and a high-performance vibration pump. Like all ECM espresso machines, the internal plumbing avoids using teflon or other plastics in favor copper tubing with brass fittings.
On the top of the machine, the large capacity railed cup tray doubles as a passively heated cup warming surface and can be removed for access to the water reservoir. The water reservoir holds 3 liters and is fitted with a sensor that shuts off the machine off at low volumes to prevent the boiler from running dry. Removing the cup tray also grants access to the pump pressure adjustment screw which allows you to modify the brew pressure of the machine. You can monitor the pump pressure with the gauge mounted on the front of the machine.
ECM’s updated joystick control dispenses hot water and steam through a shared wand located on the left side of the machine. Whether you dispense steam or hot water is controlled by a steam switch that raises the temperature in the boiler when flipped on.The Classika froths using a commercial style, two-hole steam tip ideal for crafting lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk drinks.
We’re happy to say the clean, top-quality German engineering of the Classika PID ensures a long-lasting machine built for precise flavor extraction and all around great espresso. If flavor is what you care about, and you like to experiment, the Classika PID is what you should be looking for.
